Topic: MY LAST BIRTHDAY PARTY

Objectives:

  •  To revise the vocabulary on the topic “ BIRTHDAY”;
  •  To develop pupils’ listening, reading and speaking skills;
  •  To practice grammar (regular verbs);
  •  To teach pupils to work individually;
  •   To motivate them in expressing their own opinions on the topic;

Equipment: cards, tables, cassette recording, a picture, three balloons, a box with presents, a magic flower with the tasks;

Type of the lessons: task based learning;

Procedure

  1.  Introduction.

  1.  Greeting.

T: Good morning, friends!

Ps: Good morning, teacher!

T: I’m glad to meet you!

Ps: We glad to meet you too!

T: are you O’K today?

Ps: We are fine, thank you!

  1.  Warming – up.

T: Dear pupils, what is the weather like today?

  1.  What season is it now?
    1.  What month is it now?
    2.  What day is it today?
    3.  Is it cold today?
    4.  Is it hot today?
    5.  Is it warm today?
    6.  Is it snowing now?
    7.  Is it raining?
    8.  Do you like this weather?

T: We are having an unusual lesson today.  We have a lot of guests today and also a lot of interesting tasks to do. So, today we are going to speak about your favourite holiday, about birthday.

This spring magic flower has a lot of different tasks for us, and if we do it successfully we will get some presents.

T: Well pupils, what words do you associate with the topic “Birthday Party”?

    Look at our “Mind map” and try to write as many words about this holiday as you know.

T: Now we will work with these pictures. Look at them very attentively. We have two birthday parties. The first was a week ago and the second is today. Your task is to find some differences between them.  You are to write down them. You have three minutes.

The key:

  1.  There was a big cake last week and now it is small.
  2.  Last week the father brought the flowers and now the boy brings it.
  3.  Last week a boy had a party and now the girl has it.
  4.  A week ago grandma stood near the table and now she is sitting on the chair.
  5.  Last week the door was closed and now it is opened.

T: Now each pupil gets an individual card with a text about birthday. Your task is to read it  fill in the  brackets with these verbs.


MY    LAST   BIRTHDAY   PARTY

     I  ___________ a Birthday Party two days ago. A lot of my friends __________to my house. They _________  some flowers and presents for me.

My mother _______ a lot of tasty food. The holiday _______ very funny and interesting. We _______  and ___________ songs. Then we ________ to the park and  _______ a lot of different games there.

We _____ very happy.

  1.  Relaxation. Pass a balloon.

 

T: Now let’s play a game. The game is called “Pass a balloon”.

We have an inflected balloon with a message inside and we have to pas it while music is played. When the music stops the player who has a balloon must sit on it, burst it and read the message and do the instruction.

  T: Now open your books at page 110, listen to the story and be very attentive.

I made a meal yesterday. He made this chair last week. I made a pretty doll the day before yesterday.

He got up at 7 o’clock yesterday. He got lots of presents on his birthday last Saturday.

Mr. Green wished happy birthday to Miss Alison and gave her beautiful flowers. My  Mum gave me some money to buy food in the shop.

Post – listening task.

T: Listen to my sentences and say true or false.

  1.  I made a meal yesterday.

      1.  He didn’t get any presents on his birthday two weeks ago.
      2.  Mr. Green wished happy birthday to Miss Alison.

T: So, pupils you worked very hard today and you get some presents for you and for our guests. I don’t have a possibility to greet you with your birthdays. That’s why I want to give you  these small presents and you may  open it only on your birthday and remember School of Rakovets and our lesson.
