You’ll learn new words and find out what food we must eat to be healthy, how to make your healthy diet and speak about the right food, our habits of eating.

УРОК 1

Тема «Їжа та напої».

Підтема «Вживайте корисну їжу»

Цілі:

навчальна: познайомити учнів з новими ЛО; тренувати учнів в аудіюванні та вживанні ЛО; удосконалювати навички читання та перекладу, усного мовлення;

розвивальна: розвивати комунікативні навички, мовну здогадку, уяву, пам’ять, увагу;

виховна: виховувати інтерес до вивчення англійської мови, повагу до вчителя, розширювати світогляд учнів на основі ознайомлення із культурою харчування,  дисциплінованість, виховувати культуру спілкування, слухання.

Тип уроку: засвоєння нових знань.

Обладнання: підручник, зошити, словники, картинки, фотографії.

ХІД УРОКУ

І. Підготовка до сприйняття іншомовного мовлення.

1. Greeting and aim. Привітання й повідомлення теми та мети уроку.

T: Good morning, children! I’m glad to see you. I think you’re well. I hope we’ll have a wonderful time together. Let’s begin our lesson. Today we are going to work at the topic “Food and Drinks”. You’ll learn new words and find out what food we must eat to be healthy, how to make your healthy diet and speak about the right food, our habits of eating.

2. Warming up. Уведення в іншомовну атмосферу

T: Now answer my questions:

How many meals a day do you have?

P1: I have three meals: the breakfast, the dinner and the supper.

T: What is your typical breakfast?

P2: I like a sandwich, porridge, eggs, cheese and a cup of tea.

P3: As for me I like sausage sandwiches and cocoa for breakfast.

P4: I usually eat bread and butter, eggs and juice for breakfast.

T: What is your favourite food?

P5: My favourite food is spaghetti.

P6: I like pizza.

P7: I prefer the fried potatoes and a bottle of Cola.

T: Can you cook?

P8: Yes, I can. I always help my mother cooking.

P9: As for me, I can’t cooking.

II. Основна частина

1. Presenting Vocabulary and Practice

Ознайомлення з новою лексикою: either, cornflakes, bones, vitamins, important, wealth. Учитель записує на дошці слова, називає їх, а діти повторюють за вчителем кілька разів, записують слова у словнички і самостійно  знаходять їх значення у словнику.

T: Today we’re going to learn new words. Listen to me attentively and repeat after me.

Example: T: Either

Cl: Either

T: We cannot live without food either.

Cl: We cannot live without food either.

T: Please, find the meaning of this word in the vocabulary. You see we use the word “either” in the meaning «теж, також» in the negative sentences.

T: Сornflakes.       Учитель показує малюнок із зображенням  та називає слово, діти повторюють кілька разів і записують значення слова у словник.

Cl: Сornflakes

Т: I think that you’ve guessed the meaning of this word and many of you like cornflakes. 

T: Bones. Учитель показує малюнок із зображенням

T: You see, vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, cheese make our bones and teeth strong.

T: Vitamins. Учитель показує малюнки із зображенням

Cl: Vitamins.

T: Vegetables and fruit have got a lot of vitamins.

T: Important.

Cl: Important. 

T: Vitamins are very important for our eyes, bones, hair and so on. If you don’t guess the meaning of the word “important” find it in the vocabulary.

T: Wealth.

Cl: Wealth.

         

T: We often think that wealth is very important in modern life but good health is above wealth. We cannot buy our health at any money. That’s why we have to take care of our health. We have to go in for sport and of course to eat the right food.

2. Physical warm-up. Фізкультхвилинка.

T: Stand up, please. Listen, repeat and do the exercises. (Фізкультхвилинку проводить хтось із учнів. Говорить слова зарядки, виконуючи вправи, клас повторює за ним).

Text “Eat the Right Food”

T: Open your books at page 60 exercise 2. Your task is to read this text and say why it is important to eat different kinds of food.

Діти читають текст про себе і висловлюють свої думки стосовного того, чому потрібно їсти різну їжу.

P1: I think it is important to eat different kinds of food because it gives us energy and makes strong.

P2: We must eat different kinds of food such as vegetables and fruit because they have got a lot of vitamins.

P3: Vitamins also are important for our eyes, skin, bones, hair and for other parts of our body.

P4: Such food as meat, fish and milk help us to grow.

3. Writing. Письмо.

T: As you’ve learnt from the text that different kinds of food help our body to keep fit and to be strong and healthy, I think you can decide on a healthy diet for yourself. First look at the pictures of ex.1 pg. 60                                                 

and write down in your exercise-books:

  •  What food do you like to eat?
  •  What food is very useful for us?
  •  What food isn’t useful for our health?
  •  Make a list of your diet which must contain all the things we need, such as vitamins and minerals.

T: Now read your notes, please.

Example:

P1: As for me I like to eat sweets, chocolate, cakes and ice-cream. I know that the useful food for us is cheese, milk, eggs, bread, fruit and vegetables. Chips and sweets aren’t useful for us. So I made my healthy diet. It contains butter, cheese, cornflakes, bread, eggs, nuts, beans, fruit, vegetables, milk and sour cream.

T: Now you know that we must eat the right food. And all of you have to remember the proverb “Good health is above wealth”. (Діти повторюють і завчають прислів’я).

Ex. 3 pg. 60 -61. Answer the questions in written form. Learn new lexical units by heart.

виховна: виховувати інтерес до вивчення англійської мови, повагу до вчителя, розширювати світогляд учнів на основі ознайомлення із культурою харчування,  дисциплінованість, виховувати культуру спілкування, слухання.

T: Good morning, children! I’m glad to see you. Let’s start our lesson. Today we continue to work at the topic “Food and Drinks”. You’ll learn new words and continue to speak about the right food, our habits of eating. Also you’ll learn the using of the verbs related to senses + adjectives.

2. Warming up. Уведення в іншомовну атмосферу

T: Now answer my questions:

What kind of food do you eat?

P1: I eat fruit, vegetables and dairy products every day.

P2: I usually eat porridge, meat, soup or borsch.

T: What food makes you strong and gives you energy?

P3: Some kinds of food like bread, sugar, meat, butter, cheese, rice make me strong and give me energy.

T: What food helps you to grow?

P4: Meat, fish and milk help me to grow.

T: What food makes your bones and teeth strong?

P5: Vegetables, eggs, cornflakes make my bones and teeth strong.

T: Why must you eat vegetables and fruit?

P6: We must eat vegetables and fruit because they have got a lot of vitamins.

T: Why are vitamins very important for you?

P7: Vitamins are very important for our eyes, skin, bones, hair and other parts of our body.

T: Do you eat the right food?

P8: I think I eat the right food.

P9: As for me, I don’t eat right food.

T: What food do you like to eat? What food don’t you like?

P10: I like to eat meat, vegetables and fruit but I don’t like dairy products.

T: What food do you think is bad for you?

P11: To my mind, “fast food” is bad for me.

Ознайомлення з новою лексикою: bitter, bland, creamy, crisp, crunchy, hot, salty, sour, spicy,  sweet, tasteless.

Учитель записує на дошці слова, називає їх, а діти повторюють за вчителем кілька разів, записують слова у словнички, здогадуються про їх значення або  самостійно  знаходять їх значення у словнику.

T: Today we’re going to learn new words. All of them are adjectives and they mean our taste.

Example:

T: Bitter.

Cl: Bitter.

T: It’s an adjective. This word means the taste of pepper.  

Guess what “bitter” means. Write down this word into your vocabulary.

T: Bland.

Cl: Bland.

T: This piece of cake is very bland.

T: Creamy.

Cl: Creamy.

T: These cakes are creamy.

T: Crisp, crunchy.

Cl: Crisp, crunchy.

T: These words are synonyms. I like crunchy  waffles and crisp potatoes.

      

T: Hot.

Cl: Hot.

T: This coffee is very hot.

T: Salty.

Cl: Salty.

T: This herring tastes salty. 

T: Sour.

Cl: Sour.

T: Lemon tastes sour.

T: Spicy.

Cl: Spicy.

T: This ketchup is spicy.

T:  Sweet.

Cl: Sweet.

T: Honey tastes too sweet.

T: Tasteless.

Cl: Tasteless.

T: Water is tasteless.

2. Writing. Письмо.

T: Now, I think, you are ready to do exercise 4 page 61. Your task is to read and complete the sentences. Use the words: spicy, sweet, sour, salty, bitter.

1. If you add a    to your tea, it makes it taste ____________.

2. Jane added some to the dish to make it ___________.

3. This tastes too ____________. You have put too much sugar in it.

4. This tastes too ____________. Pass me the sugar, please.

5. This is too ___________! I can’t eat it.

3. Physical warm-up. Фізкультхвилинка.

T: Stand up, please. Listen, repeat and do the exercises. (Фізкультхвилинку проводить хтось із учнів. Говорить слова зарядки, виконуючи вправи, клас повторює за ним).

4. Presenting Grammar. Подання нового граматичного матеріалу.

T: Today you are going to learn the using of the verbs related to senses + adjectives.

Verbs related to the senses are: to feel, to hear, to smell, to look, to see, to taste, to sound.

Remember that they are followed by adjectives, not adverbs:

This cake smells delicious. This coffee tastes bitter.

T: Now let’s make up sentences of your own with the verbs related to senses + adjectives.

P1: This porridge tastes too sweet.

P2: This soup smells awful.

P3: Those buildings look nice.

P4: This song sounds beautiful,  etc.

5. Oral practice. Практика в говорінні.

T: You have some cards with the pictures of food. Now your task is to describe food as in the example.

Example:

Borsch is tasty, healthy and useful. Borsch has got a lot of vitamins. It helps me to grow, makes me strong and gives me energy.

hamburger

Example:

Hamburger is delicious but it is unhealthy and useless. It is “fast food”. It has no vitamins at all. It doesn’t help me to be strong and healthy.

T: Now let’s learn a new proverb “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. This proverb says if you eat only one apple every day you needn’t a doctor. We know that fruit is very useful for us. Remember this proverb and keep it.

Ex. 5 pg.61. Read, complete  and write down the sentences of ex 5 pg61. Choose the correct item from the words in brackets.  Learn new lexical units by heart.

розвивальна: розвивати мовну інтуїцію, розвивати фонематичний та інтонаційний слух, уміння передавати зміст почутого, розвивати комунікативні навички, мовну здогадку, уяву, пам’ять, увагу;

виховна: розширювати світогляд учнів на основі ознайомлення із культурою харчування,  дисциплінованість, виховувати культуру спілкування, слухання, заохочувати до вивчення нового.

T: Now tell me what the boy has for breakfast?

P1: The boy has juice, cereal, milk, bacon, coffee and a toast.

T: OK. And what about you? What do you have for breakfast?

P2: I have a sandwich and a cup of tea.

P3: I like to eat porridge with milk for breakfast.

P4: As for me I usually have bread and butter, eggs and cocoa, etc.

T: As you see, today we’ll continue to speak about meals we usually have during the day. But first, let’s learn new words which will help us in our talking.

The first word is meals.

Cl: Meals.

Will you guess the meaning of this word. We usually have got four meals a day: breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper It is an occasion when you eat food, for example breakfast or dinner, or the food that you eat on that occasion.

 

Write down this word into your vocabularies.

T: The next word is mixer. It is a piece of equipment used to mix things together.

Cl: Mixer.

T: I think you’ve already guessed the meaning of this word.

T: Look at the pictures and repeat after me bowl. It is a wide round container that is open at the top, used to hold liquids, food, flowers etc.

      

Cl: Bowl.

T: Now you know this word.

T: A stove is a piece of kitchen equipment on which you cook food in pots and pans, and that contains an oven (cooker).

    

Cl: Stove.

T: Toast is bread that has been heated so that it is brown on both sides and no longer soft. I like to eat  toasts and a cup of tea.

     

Cl: Toast.

T:  Spaghetti is a type of pasta in very long thin pieces, that is cooked in boiling water. Do you like spaghetti?

Cl: Yes, we do. We like spaghetti.

T:  Dessert.  It is sweet food served after the main part of a meal.

       

Cl: Dessert.

T: Pudding is a hot sweet dish, made from cake, rice, bread  with fruit, milk or other sweet things added.

Cl: Pudding.

T: Pancakes are thin flat round cakes made from flour, milk, and eggs, that have been cooked in a flat pan and are eaten hot.

  

Cl: Pancakes.

T: And the last new word for today – prefer. It means to like someone or something more than someone or something else, so that you would choose it if you could. Find the meaning of this word in the dictionary.

2. Physical warm-up. Фізкультхвилинка

T: Let’s play the game “Simon says”.

Учні виконують дії, коли вчитель при цьому каже: “Simon says”, якщо мовчить – учні стоять нерухомо. Той, хто порушить правило, повинен сісти. Виграють ті учні, які залишаться стояти.

T: Simon says: Hands up! Simon says: Hands down! Stand up! Go! Run! Swim! Jump! Fly! Draw! Look at …! Close …!

3. Reading. Читання.

T: Now I think you’re ready to read the text “Meals” (ex.2 pg.62). Let’s read it in chain.

T: Now  your task is to finish sentences:

  1.  People have got four meals a day: __________. (breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper).

T: You have cards on your desks. You can see words there. Your task is to make up the sentences with these words.

  4.  Russian tea is tea with lemon in it.
  5.  Dinner is the biggest meal of the day.

T: Now look through the text again and answer my questions:

1. What do people usually eat for breakfast?

P1: They usually eat bread and butter, curds, porridge, eggs, cheese or sausage sandwiches for breakfast.

2. What do they drink after breakfast?

P2: They drink tea, coffee, milk, juice or cocoa.

3. What do people usually eat for dinner?

P3: People usually eat a plate of soup, meat or fish and potatoes or spaghetti for dinner. Also they have a cup of tea with sweets or cookies or a glass of juice.

4. What do people like to eat for dessert?

P4: They like to eat berries, fruit or ice-cream for dessert.

5. What do people have for supper?

P5: People have sausages, a pudding or pancakes and a glass of milk for supper.

6. What do we say if a person eats well?

P6: If a person eats well, we say, “He is a good eater”.

7. What do we say if a person doesn’t eat well?

P7: If a person doesn’t eat well we say, “He is a poor eater.”

4. Vocabulary Practice. Lexical Game. Практика у вживанні тематичної лексики. Лексична гра.

T:  There are nineteen words connected with food. They go across and down. Find the hidden words  in the box and write them down.

P3: When we use a stove we must be very carefully.

P4: My favourite dish is toasts with jam.

P5: Usually I have got three meals a day.

P6: As for me I prefer to eat borsch for dinner.

P7: I want to eat spaghetti and a pudding for supper.

P8: My sister prefers pancakes for dinner, etc.

виховна: розширювати світогляд учнів на основі ознайомлення із культурою харчування,  дисциплінованість, виховувати культуру спілкування, слухання, заохочувати до вивчення нового.

1. How many meals a day have you got?

P1: I have got four meals a day.

2. What is breakfast time in Ukraine?

 P2: Breakfast time is between seven and nine o’clock in Ukraine.

3. What is lunch time in Ukraine?

P3: Lunch time is between eleven and twelve o’clock.

4. What is dinner time in Ukraine?

P4: It is between two or four o’clock.

5. What is supper time in Ukraine?

P5: It is between seven and eight o’clock.

6. What do you usually have for breakfast?

P6: I usually have cheese or sausage sandwiches and a cup of tea for breakfast.

P1:  My favourite meal is pizza. Today everyone loves pizza with lots of cheese and different toppings. But have you ever thought about the origin of Pizza and how it became so famous. Let me discover an interesting fact and history about pizza.

  Pizza was originally founded by the early Greeks who first baked large, round and flat breads. Eventually the idea of flat bread became famous in Italy where, in the 18th century, the flat breads called Pizzas were sold on the streets and in the markets. At that time Pizza had no toppings and it was enjoyed naturally.

P:2 My favourite food is Spaghetti. My mum likes this dish very much too. We would Spaghetti eat everyday but my father does not like it very much.  But when he is gone my mum and me eat it as much as we want.  Sometimes we don't eat it with any type of sauce, just put a little bit of butter and parmesan cheese.

P3: I like many dishes but my favourite drink is tea. Tea is the most popular drink in Britain. Tea is an evergreen plant and never loses its leaves. It was discovered 5,000 years ago by a Chinese Emperor. While he was resting under a Camellia tree a leaf fell into his pot of boiling water. Towards the middle of the 17th century, English sailors brought tea to Britain. Tea helps us to relax. There are 1,500 different types of tea. The British drink about 39 cups of tea a week. Tea is a natural drink.

P2: To cook biscuits put raisins into a pot with a little water and place them over the fire. Put flour into a separate pan. Make a hole right in the middle of the flour. Place some shortening into that hole. Then add water. Mix the flour, water and shortening. Make smooth circles of biscuits and fry in an iron skillet.

T: You see, Justin and his grandpa had a picnic. Did you have a picnic once with you parents or grandparents?

P3: Yes, I did. I had a picnic with my parents.

T: What food did you eat?

P3: We ate baked potatoes.

T: How did you cook outside?

P3:  We cooked potatoes in a hot ash.

T: And what about you?

P4: I had a picnic with my father too. We cooked fish soup “uha” on a fire and ate it with great pleasure.
