Hello, boys and girls! We gathered here to see the competition of those who know English well, who are cheerful and quick–witted. Look, we have two teams: “English girls” and “Real friends”. Now let me introduce our jury. They are real experts in English. Well, let’s start.

Клуб веселих та кмітливих.

Мета: Активізувати вживання вивченої лексики. Практикувати  в переглядовому читанні та усному мовленні. Розвивати пам’ять, увагу, мовну здогадку, фантазію та ініціативу у здійсненні іншомовної мовленнєвої діяльності. Розвивати пізнавальні інтереси учнів. Підвищити мотивацію до вивчення іноземної мови.

ХІД ЗАНЯТТЯ

Ведучий: Hello, boys and girls! We gathered here to see the competition of those who know English well, who are cheerful and quick–witted. Look, we have two teams: “English girls” and “Real friends”. Now let me introduce our jury. They are real experts in English. Well, let’s start.

Contest 1 (Greeting).

Introduce your team (name, motto, emblem).

Contest 2 (Missing letters).

Make words by adding one letter in each circle.

Contest 3 (Complete the jokes).

Complete the jokes by putting the missing punch line from the box. A punch line is the last line of a joke.

I. 1.Girl: Tommy, why do you have your umbrella open? It isn’t raining.

Tommy:

2. Mother: Get up, you lazy boy. Look, the sun is up and you are in bed.

Dan:

     3. Teacher: What do you see over our heads in fine weather?

  Jimmy: The blue sky, sir.

  Teacher: And when it rains?

 Jimmy:

a) Yes, but the sun goes to bed at 6 o’clock, and I go to bed at nine.

b) We can see the Moon and we cannot see England.

c) An umbrella, sir.

d) Well, you see, when it rains, Dad takes the umbrella. I get it only when we have fine weather.

II. 1. Teacher: In winter the days are short, in summer they are long. Can you tell me why it is so?

Andy: Yes, sir, I can. …

2. Dad: What is the weather like today, Peter?

   Peter:

3. Teacher: Which is nearer to us, England or the Moon?

Pupil: The Moon.

Teacher: The Moon? Why do you think so?

Pupil:

a) It’s so cloudy. I can’t see.

b) An umbrella, sir.

c) Everything shrinks (зменшується) in winter, because it is cold, and in summer everything expands (розширюється), because it is warm

d) We can see the Moon and we cannot see England.

Contest 4 (Tornado crossword).

You see the tornado mixed up all the words together. You task is to find 22 words and write them down.

Contest 5 (Do you know proverbs?).

Put the words in the correct order to get a well-known proverb. Think of the Ukrainian equivalent to it.

1. never/It/to/is/late/too/ learn.      2. know/To/is/everything/to/nothing/know.

3. keeps/An apple/the doctor/a day/away.      4. wealth/Health/better/is/than.

Contest 6 (Poetry corner).

Do you like poetry? Your task is to read a poem artistically and dramatize it.

1. Three little cats.  

Three little cats

Went out one day   

Not for a walk   

And not to play.   

They went to find    

Some milk to drink.  

Yes! They found some,  

Where do you think?  

By every door

A jar they found.        

They drank the milk

Without a sound.

2. A Duck Family.

Father duck goes for a swim.

Mother duck comes out with him

And behind them, nice and clean,

Seven yellow ducklings swim.

Seven little yellow balls.

“Quack, quack, quack,” the mother calls.

What a pretty sight they make

Swimming on the lake.

Contest 7

(Captain’s contest).

Now the captains are invited. Look at these two pictures. They are a bit different. Your task is to find at least 10 differences between two birthday parties.

Spectators’ contest.

Solve the riddles.

  1.  What man cannot live in the house?
  2.  I have cities but no houses, forests but no trees, rivers without water. What am I?
  3.  This is a house with one window in it, showing films nearly every minute.
  4.  I am round, I am hot, I am high in the sky. What am I?
  5.  When I eat I live, but when I drink I die. Who am I?
  6.  I am black and red and blue and many other colours. I draw pictures for you.
  7.  I have a face. I have hands. I can run. I can stop. I cannot talk. What am I?
  8.  My face is black, as black as night. On it with chalk all people write.

Contest 8 (Hometask).

Our teams prepared for this contest beforehand. Their task was to dramatize an extract from a famous book for children.

Team I. “Tom and Aunt Polly” (from “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain)

Aunt Polly: Tom, go and whitewash the fence.

Tom:        Oh, Auntie, I can't. I'll do it... tomorrow.

Aunt Polly: Whitewash the fence, I say (Goes away).

(Tom begins to whitewash the fence. Ben appears. He has an apple in his hand).
Ben: What are you doing?

Tom:    I am whitewashing the fence.
Ben: Do you want to say you like it?

Tom:   Of course, I do. Does a boy whitewash a fence every day?

(Tom goes on whitewashing. He does not look at Ben).
Ben: Tom, let me whitewash a little!

Tom:   No, I can't. Jim wanted to do it, but Aunt Polly did not let him.
Ben: Tom, do let me. I'll give you my apple.

Tom:    All right.

(He takes the apple, sits down and begins to eat it. Ben is whitewashing the fence. Billy appears).
Billy:  Hello! What are you doing here?
Ben: Tom and I are whitewashing the fence.

Billy:  You don't think it is interesting, do you?
Ben:   We do. Jim wanted to do it. But Aunt Polly didn't let him.

Billy:  Let me whitewash a little.
Ben: No, I won't.

(They begin fighting).

Tom:   Stop that! Now it's your turn to whitewash, Billy.

(Now Billy is working).

Tom:   Now it's your turn to whitewash, Ben.

(Now Ben is working).

Aunt Polly (appearing) Oh, it's all done! You are a good boy, Tom. You can work when you want to. Now you may go and play.

Tom:   Hurrah! Let's run to the river!

All the boys: Hurrah!

(They run away).

Team II.     Three Little Pigs.

Singer: Hello. I'm a little pig, my name is Singer. I like to sing songs.

Jumper: Hi. I'm a little pig. My name is Jumper. I like to jump.

Dancer: Hi. I'm a little pig. My name is Dancer. I like to dance.

(They sing a song).
I like to sing songs.
 I like to count.

I like to read. I like to run.

I like to play games. And turn around.

I like to eat. Oh, this is Fun.

Singer:     It is cold.

Jumper:    It is wet.

Dancer:   Oh, look. The sky is grey. The clouds are dark. So, let us build a house.

Singer:     I have built my house of grass, house of grass, house of grass, I have

built my house of grass. Tra-la-la-la-la.

Jumper:   I have built my house of sticks, house of sticks, house of sticks, I have

built my house of sticks, Tra-la-la-la-la.

Dancer:   I have built my house of bricks, house of bricks, house of bricks, I

have built my house of bricks. Tra-la-la-la-la.

Wolf:        Hi. I'm Big Bad Wolf, I don't like to play. I like little pigs. Little pig, let me come in.

Singer:     Oh, no. Go away.

Wolf:        Well. I will blow your house down. Huff, huff. Puff, puff.

Singer:     Oh, my house. I don't have a house now. But I can run to my brother

Jumper.

Jumper:    Who is this?

Singer:     Brother Jumper. Open the door. Let me come in. Big Bad Wolf is after

me.

Jumper:   Oh, come in, come in.

Wolf:       Little pigs. Let me come in. Open the door.

Singer and Jumper: Oh, no. Big Bad Wolf, go away.

Wolf:        Well, I will blow your house down. Huff, huff. Puff, puff.

Singer and Dancer: Oh, our house. We don't have a house now. Let us run to our

brother Dancer.

Dancer:   Who is this?

Singer and Jumper: Brother Dancer, open the door. Let us come in. Big Bad Wolf is after us.

Dancer:   Oh, come in, come in. Let us shut the door.

Wolf:        Little pigs. Open the door. Let me come in.

Pigs:        Oh, no. Big Bad Wolf, go away.

Wolf:        Well. I will blow your house down.   Huff, huff, puff, puff. Oh, I

cannot blow this house down. It is very big. I must go away. I am sad.

Pigs:        And we are glad, we are happy.

We aren't afraid of Big Bad Wolf, Big Bad Wolf, Big Bad Wolf,

/twice Tra-la-la-la-la.
