Theme: Favourite Clothes.                                                    Form 6

Objectives:   PWBAT

- speak about clothes, cloth and decorations;

- play the role “In the shop”;

- match dialogues with the pictures;

- revise and practice in usage phrasal verbs;

- read and do the tasks to the text about a police officer’s clothes;

- describe the people’s clothes;

- solve the crossword about clothes.

Materials: a student book, pictures of clothes, cards with the names of clothes, cards with the task for reading, cards for practicing the phrasal verbs, pictures of three persons and cut sentences with their descriptions.

Procedure

1. Beginning of the lesson

T: Good-morning, pupils. I’m glad to see you. The topic of our today’s lesson is favourite clothes. We have lots of things to do today….

2. Warming up

T: And now, please, have a look at the board. Here we have some pictures and you have their names. Please, come and glue the name near the picture.

T: Well done! And now imagine this is your wardrobe.

Tell what is there in it.

   E.g.: There is a…………………in the wardrobe.

             There are …………………in the wardrobe.

3. Practice.  Pair work

T: We need clothes to keep warm and to look beautiful. But on different occasions we wear different clothes. Look at your cards and complete the sentences. Work in pairs. Read aloud.

E.g. In the park people usually wear…….

      In the park people usually wear…….

      At home people usually wear…….

      At the party people usually wear……. 

      At the theatre people usually wear…….

      At school people usually wear…….

      On a picnic people usually wear…….

      In the yard people usually wear…….

      In summer people usually wear…….

      In winter people usually wear…….

4. Checking up home task. Dialogical speech.

T: Where can we buy clothes? Yes, we can buy them in the shop or at the market. Your task for today was to make up and act out a dialogue “In the shop”. Who would like to present it?

(Two pairs of pupils are acting out their dialogues).

E.g.: - Can I help you?

        - Well, I am looking for a suit.

        - All the suits are over there on the left.

        - Thanks. Can I try this one on?

        - Yes, sure. The fitting rooms are over there.

        - Thanks.

        - Is it good for you?

        - No, not really. It is too big. Do you have it in a smaller size?

        - No, I’m sorry, we haven’t.

        - O.K., then I leave it.

5. Writing. Grammar review

T: Now open your books on page 73 Exercise 19. Read three short conversations and match them with the pictures. Tell what the verbs in bold type mean? (try on, put on, take off)

They are called phrasal verbs.  Which one do you know?    Have a look at the cards on you desks.

Exercise 1

Complete the sentences with the phrasal verbs.

1/ I often get………. at 10 o’clock on Sundays.                               

2/ Hurry……….! We are late to school.

   3/ Can I put this sweater……….?

   4/ I’ll come………… in 20 minutes.

   5/ After the party I had to wash………..

   6/ You should take your anorak………... It is hot.

   9/ The teacher came……….. and the children stood ………..

   10/ Wake me…………. at 8 o’clock, please.

 T: Let’s check up. (And the one near the board)

6. Reading. Writing

T: And now we are going to read a text about Mr. Smith. He is a police officer. How do you think what does he wear? (a jacket, trousers). Let’s read and check up.  

Mr. Smith.

   Mr. Smith lives in London. He is a police officer. At home Mr. Smith usually wears a cotton shirt, trousers, a jacket, socks and shoes. But when he goes to work, he puts on his police uniform. When it is cold he puts on his woolen sweater. It keeps him warm during his night duties. He also puts his boots and his belt on. The boots and the belt are made of leather. Then he puts on a police jacket or a raincoat and takes his police cap. When Mr. Smith comes home from work he always changes his clothes and puts his uniform into the wardrobe.

T: Do you remember what he puts on. Then write if the statements are true of false.

Exercise 2

  Read the text and write true or false.

1/ The officer’s name is Mr. Small.  ____

2/ He lives in Great Britain. ____

3/ At work Mr. Smith wears his school uniform. ____

4/ At home he usually puts on a short and trousers. ____

5/ In cold weather he wears a coat. ____

7/ Mr. Smith has got a leather belt. ____

8/ On duties he usually wears a police sweater and a cap. ____

9/ He sometimes wears a raincoat. ____

10/ At home Mr. Smith takes his work clothes off. ____

11/ He keeps his clothes in the kitchen. ____

T: And now exchange the cards and we’ll check up. (And the one near the board) So let’s put the marks. Who has no mistakes, only one, two….. You have…...

7. Group work

T: Well done! How clever you are. And now you should describe a person. Each group has one picture and descriptions of all pictures. The sentences are cut and mixed. Find the sentences about your picture, and then read them in the class.

8. Listening. Speaking.

T: Your classmate Anna prepared for today her description of a person. Listen to and tell if you like the girl’s clothes of not. Why? (Presentation of the work)

9. Summing up

T: Thanks. You did it perfectly. You have…..

T: Soon will be the end of our lesson. So, tell did we speak about clothes and decorations?

Did we play the role “In the shop”? Did we match dialogues with the pictures?

Did we revise and practice in usage phrasal verbs?

Did we read and do the tasks to the text about a police officer’s clothes?

Did we describe the people’s clothes? Did we solve the crossword about clothes?

10. Home assignment

T:  Do the clothes affect the way we react to other people? What can the clothes tell us about a person who wears them? Read and complete the statements using words from the box.

T: And now let’s have fun now! Look at the picture, guess the word and write it down, please. (Solving of the crossword). You were very bright today. Good-bye!
