Тема: Дозвілля Free Time

Підтема: Літні канікули. Повторення розділових запитань (Disjunctive Questions).

Мета: Повторити утворення та активізувати вживання в мові розділових запитань. Підготувати учнів до самостійного описання тематичної картини.

Обладнання: підручник, тематична картина «Літні канікули», граматична таблиця "Disjunctive Questions (§ 37 Reference Grammar); українсько-англійські словники, речення і розділові питання для

гри "Find your partner" (НО1).

Хід уроку


Aim 1. Повідомлення теми та мети уроку.

Т:  The topic of our today's lesson is "Summer Holidays". We have to review the grammar the building of the disjunctive questions to use them in our speech making it more natural.

By the end of the lesson you should be able:

  1.  to use the tag-questions in your dialogues;
  2.  to use your imagination describing pictures.

Warm-up 2. Бесіда з учнями про їх літні канікули з опорою на питання на дошці.

Т: Where do you usually spend your summer holidays? Do you always look forward to your summer holidays?

What do you usually do in the summer?

Do you like to go swimming (boating)?

Are you fond of lying in the sun?

What is your idea of an ideal holiday?

My Summer Holidays

І always look forward to my summer holidays. In my opinion, there is nothing like Ukrainian countryside. We have got a small country house in a very picturesque place not far from Poltava. There's a river there. My friends and I often go swimming and boating there. I'm also fond of lying in the sun on the bank of the river. When it is very hot I usually go to the forest. The air is cool there. I like to walk in the shade of the threes and pick mushrooms and berries. I've got a dog called Blacky. He becomes so happy when I take him with me to the forest. I play with him. I throw a stick and he brings it back to me.

But last summer my parents decided to go to some other place for a change. They made up their minds to go to the Crimea. I think it was a great mistake. And don't ask me why.

To begin with, it was very difficult to find a place to stay. We rented a room in a house a long way from the sea. It was the only place we managed to get. But it didn't matter, as it turned out a few days later. Suddenly our sunny days were over. It started to rain. It occasionally cleared up for a while but then the rain went on again. All we could do was to spend all our time in the cinema or in a cafe.

I had never seen so many films in my life. Soon we got tired of the cinema, but we could only lie on the bed reading books.

At last the day of our departure came. You can't imagine how astonished we were. The sun began to shine early in the morning. But we couldn't stay there more because our time and money were limited.

We decided to spend the next summer in the country.

Grammar Review 2. Повторення утворення розділових питань (Disjunctive Questions).

1) Discussing grammar. Робота з граматичним довідником.

Т: Read the rule about the building of disjunctive questions (§ 7, Reference Grammar, p. 144) and the table "Disjunctive questions" to answer the questions.

What part do disjunctive questions or tag-questions consist of?

In what cases the forms do (does or did) are used?

In what cases do we use other forms of the verbs?

Give your examples, please.

2) Language work. Тренувальні вправи на вживання розділових питань.

а) Виконати впр. З (стор. 4) та впр. 5 (стор. 5).

б) Гра "Find your partner".
Правила проведення гри:

Copy the following sentences and the questions tags onto separate cards and divide the class into two groups.

Give one sentence to each student of group A and one question tag to each student: of group B. Students have to match sentences with the correct tags. When they have found their partners, ask them to build a four-line dialogue with their sentence. Example:

A: It's a lovely day today, isn't it?

B: Oh, yes, it is.

A: Would you like to go to the beach?

B: Oh, it's a good idea!

Т: Ask your classmates to answer your disjunctive questions to the picture. Example:

It is summer now, isn't it?

The weather is fine, isn't it?

The children are on the bank of the river, aren't they?

They are happy, aren't they?

The boys aren't playing badminton, are they?

One boy is fishing, isn't he? Etc.

1) Conversation. Розвиток творчих здібностей.

Т: Look at the picture at page 5 and answer these questions.

How did you get there?

What did you see at the first moment?

What colours did you notice?

Did you smell something?

What feelings did you have?

What did you do there?

Did you like or dislike what you saw?

2) Presenting vocabulary. Ознайомлення з ЛО, необхідними для опису.
Т: Write down Problem Vocabulary to use it by description.

Consult the Ukrainian English Dictionary if you need.

Problem Vocabulary:

far away in the distance — вдалині, на визначеній відстані

a moss — мох

to take a closer look — придивитися

approaching the beach — підходячи, наближаючись до пляжу

to be through with smth. — закінчити що-небудь

to walk barefoot — ходити босоніж

3) Sample description. Зразок описання картинки.

I got there by car. My parents took me there together with my friend. At the first moment I saw a lot of boys and girls of probably my age.

Some of them were swimming, the other ones were playing volley-ball.

Far away in the distance a boy could be seen.

He was fishing and enjoying this fine day.

The first colour that I noticed was green.

The leaves of the trees were green, as well as the grass and the moss round the stones.

Almost at once I noticed the blue colour of the sky and the river.

Then yellow sand and the sun that was almost orange. (It was extremely hot oh that day.)

When I took a closer look I noticed the brown bark of the old tee. I touched it. The bark was warm.

Approaching the beach I smelled fresh air.

I can't say that we get a lot of fresh air in our huge industrial city. So the difference could be felt at once.

The smell of water was also cooling and pleasant.

I was happy, because my school was over. It was also very nice to walk barefoot on the warm sand and to feel the refreshing coolness of water.

I played badminton, swam in the river and sunbathed. And it was great!

Of course, I liked everything there. I wanted that day to last forever.
