Things that people make with their hands pave the way to the future. As important is what they create with their minds – their ideas, hopes, and ambitions which very often materialize. People’s spiritual life is as important as their physical comfort. Each country has its people whose contribution into its development was great, whose ambitions, ideas, and inventions have advanced technology, brought glory to their country and became famous themselves.

One of the most prominent figures in the history of Great Britain was Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill. He was born in 1874 in the family of Lord Randolph Churchill and an American mother. He was educated at Harrow and Sandhurst. After a brief career in the army he became a Conservative Member of Parliament in 1900. He was the Prime Minister of the UK during the Second World War. His contribution into the Victory over the Fascist Germany thanks to his reasonable policy was great enough.

Edward Benjamin Britten is a great British composer. He was born on November 22, 1913. He was brought up in a musical atmosphere and began to compose as well as playing the piano in his childhood. In 1939 when Britten was only 26 his work was performed during the Musical Festival in the Queen’s Hall. It was the “Ballad of Heroes”, devoted to those who were killed during the Spanish War.
All his life Britten fought for peace. In 1961 he composed “The War Requiem”. This masterpiece was played in different countries and got the world-wide appreciation. Britten was a very famous and successful composer during his life time.
